How to build a new hire training program

  1. Week 1: the basics

Welcome, tools, key policies and a buddy. Keep it light. People forget most of what they hear in week 1.

  2. Day 30: the core tasks

The tasks the role does every day, taught online and then practiced on the job.

  3. Day 60: on their own

Harder cases and less help, with a manager checking in.

  4. Day 90: check and sign off

A short quiz or a manager sign-off, so you know they are ready.

Questions about onboarding training

Which parts should be online?

The parts that are the same for every new hire: policies, product basics, systems and safety. Online lessons teach them the same way every time, and you can track who finished.

How long should onboarding training take?

Most roles need about 90 days to work fully on their own. The online part is usually only a few hours of that.
